APPOINTMENTS
Once we have your basic details, we will arrange for an appointment to see you in person so we can finalise details. However, if we have all the information we need, then sometimes a phone call will be sufficient (especially for couples outside our region) to confirm everything. Some cake samples are available upon request at appointments
SERVING AS DESSSERT OR COFFEE?
This will help determine what size cake you will need. For example: if you need to provide 50 guests with cake for dessert, two tiers would be sufficient, unless of course you would like something bigger. I can help guide you in the right direction so you have sufficient dessert portions and a cake size you are happy with.
WHAT IS A KITCHEN CAKE?
If you have a large number of guests at the reception and you want to serve your wedding cake as a dessert, this is where the kitchen cake is a good option. Rather than making a large scale wedding cake to accommodate all the guests, many couples prefer to keep their cake to 2 or 3 tiers. The kitchen cakes, which are made with the same cake and icing as the main cake (decorating is simplified), are made to make up the guest numbers, and also helps to keep the overall cost down. Once the official cake cutting has taken place, the main cake is taken into the kitchen and cut into portions along with the kitchen cake. When served, your guests wont know the difference.
MIX N MATCHING CAKE FLAVOURS
If you are choosing a tiered cake, you have the option of selecting different flavours for each tier so that your guests have a choice. Keep in mind, keeping the selection down to two flavours is the most popular method so that when served, it can be alternated between the guests. This is much less fuss compared to that of three or four different flavours.
STACKED OR PILLARED
While browsing through our cake designs, you may have noticed that most of our cakes are stacked on top of each other. This method is by far the most common choice among our bridal couples and is an alternative to having the cakes set on pillars or stands. If pillars are what you desire to bring a little tradition into your design, the type of pillar required will depend on what type cake you have chosen. We have different pillars to suit light and heavy cakes so that the support structure is solid.
DELIVERY OR PICKUP?
Having your cake delivered and set up by us is a little bit like having an insurance policy. Not only is it one less thing you have to worry about on the day, but the piece of mind is perhaps the most important aspect. When we deliver, we have all the equipment necessary to do any required touch ups and in some cases, the cake will only be constructed at the reception area. We dont take risks when it comes to your cake, so make sure if you are arranging to have the cake picked up by a friend or relative, they are reliable.
FLOWERS
If you decide to have fresh flowers on your cake, heres what to do:
• Order the flowers required from the florist you have chosen for your wedding (we will give you an idea of how many to order)
• Arrange for these flowers to be delivered to our shop the day before the wedding.
• These flowers can come as they are. No wiring or taping necessary. We do all the cake tops and flower arrangements.
• The flower arrangement cost is at no extra charge and we much prefer to do it this way so that we have full control of our cakes from start to finish.
• Because florist prices vary from shop to shop, as well as seasonal price variances, it is difficult for us to quote on flower prices. Therefore, the cost of the flowers is put on your florist account. Not only is this method more convenient for both parties, but it is usually much cheaper and best of all, the flowers are exactly the same as the bouquet.
Sugar flowers are still popular with a lot of couples however, they are not recommended to accompany chocolate finished cake styles.
BOOKING YOUR WEDDING CAKE
To avoid disappointment, please book your cake well in advance. Busy periods especially during Spring and Summer usually has us booked out. It is not uncommon for us to have couples book their wedding a year and a half in advance. So if possible, give yourself (and us), the piece of mind by arranging your cake months in advance.
PAYMENT
To secure your booking, a minimum deposit of 1/3 of the total cake price is required. After the initial deposit, you have the option of paying your cake off as you wish, or to simply finalise the balance anywhere up to 7 days before the wedding day.
Payments can be made by direct deposit, cheque or money order, cash or via eftpos.
